Day 137: Cloud of discovery.

We discovered that if we didn’t leave Birdsville today, we would have been stuck there for a couple of days. The Birdsville Track closed today and the heavens have once again opened up with moisture.  So packing the roof top tent up in red mud proved interesting, but hey we are on an awesome road trip and who really cares.  The tent will dry, and the red stuff will eventually go away.   A short visit to ‘Big Red’ the 36m sand dune with new feature 1.2m lake in front, since we saw it last, was a cool site.   Our best option head north, on account of the weather and that all roads leading to Birdsville are dirt/clay.  Have to say this road has improved since we last travelled six years ago.  Still dirt/clay in parts but a little bit (tiny) bit of black stuff too.  So we left the dark clouds behind in a cloud of smoke and headed for Cuttaburra Crossing, just before Bedourie.  Where we are now watching the sunset, over semi clear skies, and the pelicans are swimming up and down the river with all the numerous other bird life.  Oh, and our little friend, we have discovered only likes the good cheese, not the easy peel cheese.  Still there, but the car is still intact, so that has to be a good thing.
