Day 233: Sunbird Partnerships.

For the last couple of days a beautiful little Olive-Backed Sunbird has been building her nest on our string of Christmas Lights under the protection of the verandah.  It started with just a little bit of bark and spiders web to bind and it has turned into an amazing pendulous nest with added moss from the tree.  With a groovy side entrance it looks like the penthouse of the bird kingdom.  Today, the finishing touches where being put inside and lined with leaves and feathers to house the eggs.  Her partner was sitting on the pool fence the whole time she was building, letting her know when the coast was clear to come in and add some more.  It seems Phoenix (our dog) has taken on the role of protector and chasing all Minor Birds away but leaving these guys alone, a little unusual for our Phoenix but I guess Mother Nature works in mysterious ways.  Hopefully down the track I will have photo of the baby Sunbirds for you, fingers crossed.
