Day 15 - Ladybird luck.

A mantle of many legends and mystery surround this little creature.  In Australia alone there are 500 species.  How they got their name was back in the Middle Ages in Europe.  Insects plagued crops and were destroying them before the farmers eyes.  They prayed to the Virgin Mary for help.  Shortly after ladybugs came devoured the insects.  Relieved the farmers called them 'The beetles of Our Lady'; eventually known as Lady Beetles.  In most cultures around the world today ladybirds are considered lucky and killing one is said to bring sadness and misfortune.  Bring on the happy days I say. :)
