Day 4 - Happy Easter

So how did the Easter Egg come about?  Well there are several theories about this; but one is that Christian customs connect the egg to some extent adaption of several ancient pagan rites.  Ancient Egyptians believed the Phoenix raised, burnt and was reborn with the egg left behind.  Hindu scriptures believe the world was developed from an egg.  With the rise of Christianity over time, the egg representing new life, the Resurrection.   The earliest Easter Eggs were duck and hen eggs decorated with dye.  17th and 18th Centuries egg-shaped toys were given.

Chocolate started to creep in the Victorian age, and the beautiful carved Fabergé eggs in the 19th Century.  Cadbury made their first Easter Egg to be sold in 1875.  Oh an a little PS for the health conscious today, 200g of Easter chocolate may equal a 3 hour jog not to hit the waistline...arh man.  I better get jogging, might be in Port Douglas by tomorrow with all the chocolate that has passed these lips.  Happy Easter Everyone. :)
