Day 43 – Anchors away.

Shipwreck trail - Marie Gabrielle anchors (1869) Victoria

On the rugged coastline of Victoria there is a shipwreck trail you can follow, mostly on the Great Ocean Road.  Sheer cliffs lead down to places aptly called ‘Wreck Beach’.  Instead of ropes and pullies, 366 stairs take you down to the sand, and the point where the Marie Gabrielle anchors lie moulded into the rocks since the ship perished in 1869, loaded with tea from China.  Thankfully all on board survived.  Point of interest when you go there make sure you read the tide chart right (this may be another story for another time.)
