Day 68 – Frankland Islands.

Frankland Islands - Queensland

Its cousins’ Green and Fitzroy Islands tend to overshadow these little gems called the Frankland Islands.  They sit just off the coast from the mouth of the Russell River, near Deeral.  Turtle’s graze sea grasses close to shore and pop up to see who is around today.  You can swim with them, watch the fish clean them until you get so cold in the water hyperthermia might set in because it is, that special a moment.  Boulder coral lies in the deeper waters.  If you just want to cruise around in the shallows, the crystal clear waters will blow you away.  There may be no pool bar, or fancy resort.  There is nothing but National Park, and a ‘toilet tour’ back to the boat.  That’s what makes it a magic corner in our back yard and well worth a visit.
